Ten key curriculum milestones history teachers need to know 2013-2107

With the welter of reforms happening to the history curriculum almost on a weekly basis it is all becoming very confusing, not to say tiresome. So I thought I’d offer you a few tapes across the exam minefield in the hope that this timeline reassures you that you actually do know whats going on simultaneously with KS3, two versions of GCSE and AS and A level.

Ten critical milestones to guide you through the next 4 years of endless change for history teachers.

June 2013 Final summer exams of unitised (modular) GCSEs. Marks awarded for spelling, punctuation and grammar in history exams
August 2013. End of consultation on revised Mark 3 GCSE specifications
September 2013 First teaching of the new revised GCSE specifications for history (called Mark2 for convenience)
January 2014 No history exams
September 2014 First teaching of the new National Curriculum history at Key Stages 1 to 3
Sep-Dec 2014 New specifications for new GCSE history published (called Mark 3 for convenience)
Specifications for the new AS and A level history with schools
June 2015 First examinations for Mark 2 revised exams
September 2015 First teaching of Mark 3 revised GCSE history.
First teaching of new AS and A level history courses
June 2016 First exam for stand alone AS history and last one for Mark 2 GCSE history
June 2017 First examinations for Mark 3 GCSE history
First exams for new AS and A level history
